Health Tip: Live Alone? (Yahoo Healthday 12/10/2004) (link retired)
(HealthDayNews) -- People who live alone are more prone to weight gain and long-term health problems caused by poor eating habits, experts at the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) say.
This statement as presented in this little press blurb is not explained. How did they come to the conclusion that the statistically increased weight gain and other health problems of those who live alone is caused by lazy eating habits described here?
It is important to recognize that people who have mental disorders usually have different ability to focus on cooking and have different tastes in what they want and their tastes tend to be less healthy the more severe their problem is. Now consider that all disease/disorders are caused by some form of stress in their system and that stress alone causes changes in eating preferences, which makes it necessary to consider that the eating problems are caused by the stress.
And stress alone will cause growth. In a portion of the body a stress can cause swelling, tumors and other growths. Stress throughout the nervous system can cause growth by changing the metabolism of the whole system.
Living alone is more stressful than living in a relationship that is satisfying, especially if the person is severely bothered by loneliness. (Some who are severely stressed or disordered can be people-avoidant by choice so that loneliness is not needed for this problem to exist.)
Being lonely is a great burden for many, especially the elderly who may find it increasingly difficult to bring community into their lives. This factor should also be considered in all of those studies that the religious promote now and then showing that prayer or religious life increases health. The elderly often have no ability to mix with people of all ages except in a church setting once a week where it is expected that people say hello to all that surround them and on the way out of the church or at the socials that follow services. Any study showing health benefits from church attendance may really be showing the benefits of community involvement or benefits coming from an occasional few words with younger people because the church attendance brings greater community mixing. Therefore the studies have nothing to do with religion and more to do with the relief of loneliness. Churches in small communities can hold a person's involvement with others hostage (the people in the community are only friendly with others who go to church).
Once again a study is looking at a problem arising from stress and looking at a small subset of possible stresses as being the issue alone. This is a mistake.

Many of the problems of medicine, biology, psychology and philosophy require an understanding of the basic mathematical principles behind how the nervous system does what it does to achieve function and experience, and that mathematics is not explained using narrowly-focused statistics. Understanding how this math works will be the tool for the discovery of many answers of great importance to humanity. The case for this concept and the offering of an explanation of this kind of math is made in the many essays of this website.
On these pages you will find ideas that should haunt you. Included are new concepts in science, medicine, sociology, evolutionary psychology, philosophy and more...
This website and the podcasts of Everyone's Revolution explain how the brain creates the mind, but many side issues must be resolved in order to teach this material. Once you realize that the "hard problems" are really the first problems to be answered, you then have a tool for changing all of science and medicine by explaining a massive number of discoveries that will fall into line in order to unify the evidence. All of the evidence is good. The interpretations of the evidence are mistaken in many cases. For ten years now there have been new discoveries of evidence that all move in the direction of supporting this theory (or this school of many theories) and its predictions. Quite a few people have started to pay attention to this theory as well.
