The Unified Theory of the Nervous System
and Behavior

Cognitive Philosophy /Brain Theory by Steven Michael Harris

Some Highlights of the Theory

Explanation of why a facilitated withdrawal (much like the withdrawal that occurs when chronic drug or alcohol use is interrupted) is necessary for the cure of all disorders of neurological processes. All current medication treatments are maintenance treatments. (Clue: To give heroin to a patient as a treatment to avoid the symptoms of withdrawal from heroin is also a maintenance treatment.)

Listing of many of the mistakes in the logic and observations of current medical understanding of the nervous system.

Discovery of a consistent and coordinated language of the brain that is embedded in the nature of the firings of nerve cells in the central nervous system. This will show that the brain does not really use particular neuro-chemicals to regulate particular functions (in the way this is explained by the current medical orthodoxy). Decisions are made cell by cell and synapse by synapse and the chemicals effect decisions only by their ability to excite or inhibit the cell. (The chemicals make different decisions in different sites.) The evolution of a variety of different neurotransmitters is an evolutionary development that is not pertinent to processing. An array of different transmitters is necessary as a mechanism of focus.

Will show why the brain does not use chemicals in the way that the doctors and biologists describe these processes, but while showing why all of the results of medical studies are occurring as they do.

Will show why current medication treatments always get their results by interrupting processing in focal points of the nervous system rather than by aiding processing. (Clue: surgery gets the same result by interrupting processing in a focal point of the nervous system.)

Illustration of the method that will be necessary to provide a cure to most mental and neurological disorders.

Treatment for removing many of the neurological deficits of the elderly, including memory problems, retardation of thinking and movement, and clinical depression.

New treatments with much more promise than any existing for dealing with addictions.

Information with implications for improving the methods of education and prisoner rehabilitation.

New identification of the nature of stress in the nervous system. (The medical establishment has been misidentifying the way stress is communicated in the body.)

Explanation of the mechanisms behind sleep. Neurologically, on the cellular level, sleep is an event that occurs 24 hours a day. What we consider sleep is much like a weather pattern with a greater amount of sleep in the system as a whole, a pattern that is required to allow certain processes to take place. (Clue: All mental and neurological disorders are, in a sense, also sleep disorders.)

Treatments that (with early intervention) could eradicate mental retardation, autism, parkinsons disorder, alzheimers disorder, schizophrenia and bi-polar disorder.

New methods for seeking the cure for a large array of physical disorders.

Methods for improving the possibility of and the extent of recovery from stroke and other brain traumas.

Methods for improving the likelihood of recovery from coma.

The cure for most sleep disorders.

Illustration of processes that are common among almost all mental and neurological disorders.

Explaining the reason for comorbid disorders and the process where a particular disorder evolves into another disorder.

Explaining why current medication treatments have a therapeutic range and significant side-effects.

Explain some flaws in scientific method.

Many of the problems of medicine, biology, psychology and philosophy require an understanding of the basic mathematical principles behind how the nervous system does what it does to achieve function and experience, and that mathematics is not explained using narrowly-focused statistics. Understanding how this math works will be the tool for the discovery of many answers of great importance to humanity. The case for this concept and the offering of an explanation of this kind of math is made in the many essays of this website.

On these pages you will find ideas that should haunt you. Included are new concepts in science, medicine, sociology, evolutionary psychology, philosophy and more...

This website and the podcasts of Everyone's Revolution explain how the brain creates the mind, but many side issues must be resolved in order to teach this material. Once you realize that the "hard problems" are really the first problems to be answered, you then have a tool for changing all of science and medicine by explaining a massive number of discoveries that will fall into line in order to unify the evidence. All of the evidence is good. The interpretations of the evidence are mistaken in many cases. For ten years now there have been new discoveries of evidence that all move in the direction of supporting this theory (or this school of many theories) and its predictions. Quite a few people have started to pay attention to this theory as well.
